BOTOX® (Botulinum
Toxoid) is a medication used to temporarily paralyze
muscles. It was developed to treat spastic muscle disorders. After
treating certain eye conditions, it was observed that
the skin about the eyes was smoother due to lessening
of the wrinkles.
Plastic surgeons
are now utilizing BOTOX® to smooth wrinkles and relax
the muscles of specific facial areas such as the vertical
forehead frown lines between the eyebrow and the crow's-feet
around the eyes. Treatment results in a significant
decrease in muscle activity and in wrinkles. In
many cases these effects cannot be achieved by surgery
or laser treatments.

BOTOX® is
injected directly into the muscles with an ultra fine needle. It
may take two days to a week before the full effect is seen. As
the muscles relax, the wrinkles and frowns will lessen or disappear
thus giving a more
rested, youthful appearance to the face without surgery. Treatment
takes only a few minutes and is associated with minimal discomfort. Its
effects will lessen or disappear in approximately three to four months. Treatments
are repeated when one feels the muscle action begin to return or when
early signs of wrinkles begin to reappear.
